In 1980, The governor of Chumphon province (Mr. Boonnak Saisawang) wrote a letter to
the President of Maejo Institute of Agricultural Technology (Mr. Wiphat Boonsri Wangsaay)
to consider to setting up a higher Institute of Agriculture in the National Forest area at La-mae
District, Chumphon Province.
The President of Maejo Institute of Agricultural Technology accepted the governor’s
request to set up an Interdisciplinary Project in an area of more than 2,005 rai.
Maejo University set up the organization namely Maejo University Chumphon, in 2004
with the status of faculty with the aim to expand educational opportunities, research, academic
services, culture and arts in upper southern Thailand.
